WE ALL NEED TOUCH

My experience as a Thai Massage Therapist since 2012 has taught me that beyond physical ailments that can be alleviated by the therapeutic effect of Thai Massage, people need touch - also (or especially) for the psyche. Through touch we (re-) connect with our body and our emotions. Due to the long duration of a Thai Massage or a Foot Reflexology Massage, we fall into a deep relaxation that increases with time and is similar to a trance-like or meditative state: We are filled with the experience of touch - the rational part of our consciousness recedes into the background. We sink into our innermost self, feel held and connected and perceive the here and now.

I am Iris, born 1970 in Düsseldorf / Germany. Since 1994 I live in Berlin where I worked in many different fields before Thai Massage crossed my way in 2012. I made an education as Theater Scupltor and a University Diploma at the University of Art in Berlin. My education in Thai Massage in the beginning of my forties started at one of the most popular schools in Chiang Mai / Thailand, the ITM School (International Training Massage School) that is certified by the Thai Health Ministry. In 2012 my education startet and 2017 I made my (so far) last certification, what was the first teacher level. That allows me to teach beginner courses. In addition to the full body Thai Massage I learned also the Thai Foot Reflexology Massage which I finished with another certification. I combine the footmassage with a neck-, head- and facemassage because my experience is that the whole body feels refreshed if head and feet are treated and refreshed.

IMPRESSIONES

SAFETY THROUGH CERTIFIED EDUCATION IN THAILAND

Thai massage is a very effective treatment. If the exercises and postures are not used correctly, injuries can also be caused. Due to my very extensive training and years of experience, I never take any risks in my treatments.

THE MEDITATIVE ASPECT OF THAI MASSAGE

In the teachings of Thai massage, not only the relaxation and well-being of the client plays an important role, but also the mental attitude of the massage therapist. As part of a millennia-old, originally Buddhist practice, the massage is practised with the inner attitude of 'loving kindness', also known as metta in yoga. During the long-lasting massage, this meditative aspect can also create a connection between client and therapist, which has the character of a joint mediation.

THE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS OF THAI MASSAGE

I completed my Thai massage education at the ITM school in Chiang Mai / Northern Thailand over several years, always during stays of several weeks in Thailand in winter.

The northern Thai Massage style differs from the (more widespread) Bangkok style in the interpretation of the traditional massage positions: While the focus of the Bangkok style is on (often painful) pressure point massage, the Northern Thai style focuses more on passive yoga positions / stretching - and an implementation that never exceeds the pain threshold so that real relaxation can take place.
